Job Title: Sports Industry Academy Operations Intern
 Summer Program July 23-28, 2023
 
Compensation: $250 Stipend plus 3 meals/day during summer program
Opportunity to sit in on workshops and interact with high level sports executives

 
Average hours/week: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. (May be less)
July 23 – July 28, 2022 
 
The Sports Industry Academy is an organization that works closely with top sports executives, corporations and educational institutions in preparing our future sports industry leaders.  From workshops to consulting services, the Sports Industry Academy provides the vehicle to introduce the plethora of opportunities in the $400+ billion dollar sports industry.

Summer Program

The Sports Industry Academy Summer Program will provide an introduction to the $500 + Billion Sports Industry to mature and highly talented high school and college students from across the country. Prominent sports executives will guide Scholars on the inner-workings of the sports industry. 

In addition to learning about the business of sports, the high school/College scholars cohort will be provided with an introduction to the academic environment of our host, U.C. Santa Barbara. 

Scholars will receive an exclusive and comprehensive daylong workshop by a Senior Admissions Counselor on how to navigate the university admissions process, including keys on writing a “winning” personal statement.

Job Requirements

Internship Requirements:
  • Must be available July 23 – July 28 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. every day.
  • Must be enrolled as an undergraduate student at UCSB. June graduates may apply.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • Must have their own housing                    

Qualifications:
  1. Must be able to think “Outside the Box”
  2. Sincere interest in the business of sports
  3. Ability work interdependently with the Sports Industry Academy professional staff
  4. Ability to work with sports executives and professional athletes
  5. Ability to assist in the bringing of new ideas to the table
  6. Ability to openly participate in group decision making that benefits the program and the Sports Industry Scholars
  7. Is able to relate to concerns of the Scholars and parents from all backgrounds
  8. Ability to be a positive role model for the Scholars in areas of academics and the business of sports
  9. Ability to communicate well, both written and verbal
  10. Ability to take direction from the Director
  11. Ability to work effectively under pressure
  12. Ability to act as an official representative of the Sports Industry Academy
  13. Patience, stamina and good humor
     
    Job Description – planning for program up until July: 
  • Work no more than 6 hours per day
  • Attend program workshops
  • Learn and understand the curriculum of the Sports Industry Academy Summer Program
  • Able to promote and market through social media
  • Able to correspond via email and phone

  • Job Description for Summer Program: 
  • Work at least 6 hours per day during the program
  • Ability to chaperone Scholars throughout the program
  • Assist Scholars with program assignments and presentations
  • Able to assist guest sports business executives and professional athletes with their presentations
  • Respond to scholar and parent questions and/or concerns
  • Assist with various program logistics through the week.
