Let's Help Our Youth!

Hello Friends and Family,

My name is Walter Boggan, and I am currently the Director of Admissions, Outreach & Diversity for the Graduate Division at U.C. Santa Barbara.  I am also the Executive Director of a venture called the Sports Industry Academy.

Like myself, I know all of you have a deep passion for uplifting youth from across the state of California.  Over the years, we have seen the lack of unique programming in the community and as a result, our youth have suffered tremendously by not gaining the knowledge of educational opportunities that can launch them to the next level.  Due to these circumstances, I desperately need your help to raise funds so we can fund 5 scholars to attend the 2023 Sports Industry Academy Summer Program hosted at UC Santa Barbara.  Although the program is virtual, costs are still associated with developing and implementing this program and providing this great opportunity for free.  To make a donation through the Akili Project, a non-profit organization ( any amount), please see below.

The Sports Industry Academy Summer Program is a unique educational program that provides high school scholars from across the country with an introduction to the $500 billion sports industry. Scholars will be taught the inner-workings of the sports industry by prominent sports business executives including Antawn Jamison (Former NBA Player, Assistant GM, Washington Wizards), Damon Jones (Vice President and Assistant GM (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Janet Sevilla (Vice President of Community Impact, Atlanta Dream) just to name a few.

The cost to sponsor a scholar is $1995 ( or any amount you are willing to give) and is guaranteed to change their mindset on what is possible in life.  In return for your donation, the scholars will attend this great program and receive the Sports Industry Academy Workshops, the Navigating your Future/College Admissions Workshop,  and a Certificate of Completion for their College Applications.  The Sports Industry Academy will also provide the following:

1.     Sponsored students will be named “Friends and Family of SIA Scholars;
2.     Profile your name on our website as a community partner;
3.     Provide an option in sports for a youth besides the single-minded pursuit of becoming a professional athlete
4.    Prepare future female and male executives for an industry that is lacking in diversity.

Friends, I am sure that this experience will definitely have a lasting impact for years to come. I know from experience; being introduced to similar programs over 25 years ago gave me the confidence to earn my college degrees from U.C. Santa Barbara and the University of San Francisco, and to have a great career uplifting youth through sports and education.

If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you in advance for your donation!
